Having Family Home Evening (aka) F.H.E. makes me smile! My parents gave me a great example to follow, and taught me to really put everything else behind, and make that a 1st priority. Because, family is and should be our 1st priority! I have several times I can remember my parents setting an example, but one story I remember was my dad giving up really good seats to a Jazz game one time, because it was family night. What a great example to me!
Now, I feel very strong about having F.H.E., but I never said, I was this type of mom, that has everything perfect, and planned 2 weeks ahead of time! Nope, I'm the type that has nothing planned, house is usually a mess, and the dinner dishes left in the sink! We stop whatever we are doing, and do a quick F.H.E. while we have our little children's minds somewhat attentive!
So what do we do for F.H.E. you ask? We do the normal, choose a song, say a prayer, read our scriptures (that's when we have our family scripture reading everyday). Our lessons usually consist of something quickly read out of the friend Magazine, A game of speed candy land or chutes and ladders, and a treat out of our leftover candy bag (from however it was brought into our house) or a bowl of ice cream!
But I want to tell you how amazing the Friend Magazine truly is! I opened up the April Friend, and the first page I opened up to was all on our media choices! It was truly inspired, because as much as my boys play the computer, watch movies or other things, I've never had the talk with them, about what is really appropriate or not! Here is the link to the lesson online! I loved this little red light, green light check list
The guidelines are wonderful. And in the lesson it suggests you to put these lights by every computer, T.V. and Radio in your home, to help those that using it, to make the right choices!
We also took the kids over to our computer, and showed them the Friend's Magazine website! It has a bunch of fun games, movies, and activities! They were super excited about it!
How does F.H.E. make you SMILE?
